Originally from Deutschland Marcel studied chemistry at the Bayerische Julius Maximilian Universität in Würzburg (Diplom-Chemiker, 1992) and at the University of Toronto (Ph.D., 1996), was an NSERC post-doctoral fellow at U Ottawa (1997) and Brookhaven National Laboratory (1998). He joined the University of Guelph in 1999. He likes sailing, hiking, and (free-) diving. (Click here for a full CV).
Gabriel Hart Slater-Eddy, Ph.D. cand.
G. Hart Slater-Eddy was born in Peterborough Ontario but has called Guelph home since 2012. After completing his B.Sc., Hons in Chemistry at the University of Guelph in 2016, he joined the Schlaf research group where he is currently working on the hydrodeoxygenation of acetylated biomass derived sugar alcohols. Beyond chemistry, Hart enjoys gardening, cooking, and cheering on the Habs. He and his partner are awaiting the birth of their first child, and are looking forward to this new chapter in their lives !
Aidan England, Ph.D. cand.
Aidan hails from Burlington, On. and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Guelph. He joined the Schlaf group in 2018 and is developing new catalytic methods for the production of green monomers and solvents. Outside of the lab, Aidan enjoys running in the Guelph Arboretum and good coffee.
Sebastian was born in Bogota, Colombia but moved to Canada full-time in 2015. He graduated from the University of Guelph in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Biological and Pharmaceutical Chemistry and after a 4th year project rejoined the group as a part-time M.Sc. student. He is currently also working in the analytical dairy lab as an instrument technician over at Laboratory Services at the University of Guelph. In his spare time, Sebastian enjoys cooking, playing basketball, and reading manga.
